Australian Athletics Tour Tipping Competition

Just follow these simple steps and you could be on your way to athletics glory.

First, register for the competition by clicking the register button on the homepage. You can save your tips at any stage and return to finish off or edit your tips before the meet gets under way. The tipping for each meet of the tour closes one hour before the first event of that meet is to be held, and tipping for ‘Title Champion” closes one hour before the final in Perth. All times listed are in the local time of the meet.

Once you are in the system it's easy. The ‘Tipping’ page has the meets listed in chronological order and beside each meet the event group divisions are listed.

Click on one of the divisions to start you off. A pop-up window will appear where you are required to make your selections from the drop-down list for the top four highest point scoring athletes of the division for that meet. Note that not all events at each meet are point scoring events and that the drop-down lists may contain athletes that are not competing in a point scoring event. It is your responsibility to check the official start lists of the point scoring events which can be found at:

Brisbane

Briggs (Hobart)

Melbourne

Sydney

Final (Perth)

In addition to each meet you are required to tip who is going to win each division across the whole season and become ‘Title Champion”.

Details of the point scoring system are on the tipping homepage.

You are also requested to input the winning time/distance/height of the athlete you have tipped to win each division. These will be used in the case of a tie.

Continue through each meet and event group division until all are completed. Remember, you can logout at anytime but make sure you have saved your tips. You can log back in and edit your tips at any stage up until the cut-off time for each meet.

Divisions will display in grey if you have not entered your tips and green if you have, so it's easy to see where you're up to.

Who will win?

Minor prizes will be awarded for the winner of each meet. The winner will be the person who has the highest number of points as displayed on the leaderboard at the end of the competition of that specific meet.

The major prize will be awarded to the winner of the Australian Athletics tour tipping competition. The winner will be the person who has the highest number of points as displayed on the overall leaderboard at the end of the season.

One point is awarded for each correct place getter in each division. If you choose Sally Pearson to accumulate the most amount of points in the Sprints/Hurdles division at Brisbane but someone else beats her and she comes second, you do not get a point. A maximum of 16 points are available for each individual meet. The overall leaderboard is an aggregate of your tipping scores for each of the tour meets and your “Title Champion” tips.

What if an international athlete wins the event? International athletes are not eligible to accumulate Australian Athletics tour points. This tipping competition only takes into account eligible Australian athletes, i.e. if Australian finishes second to an international athlete they will receive the points for fist place.

Why are first, second, third and forth equal value (1 point each)? We think that it may well be harder to select the minor positions in some divisions than first. It's about knowing all about athletics, not just the winners!

What if there is a tie? In the case of a tie, Athletics Australia will decide the winner based on whose tie-breaker entry is closest to the actual result for each division. For each meet you are requested to input the winning time/distance/height of the athlete you have tipped to win each division. Priority will be given to the tie-break results as follows:

Brisbane

1.     Sprints/Hurdles, if it is still a tie;
2.     Jumps, if it is still a tie;
3.     Throws, if it is still a tie;
